Transition Specialist- Employment Services

Monday-Friday; 40 hours per week; Benefit Eligible

Coordinates all Pre-Employment Transition Services (ETS) classes, plans, and develops curriculum for the Pre-ETS classes and summer programs, and implements curriculums in classroom settings and summer programs. The Transition Specialist also serves as a job coach during the summer program.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements curriculum for Pre-ETS classes.  Selects, develops, modifies and/or adapts materials and resources which support learning.
  • Instructs students in the classroom, on skills necessary for competitive employment based on the specific class authorized.
  • Communicates with school staff to build rapport and to maintain positive relationships.
  • Organizes teaching and student materials for efficient distribution and collection.
  • Documents all services provided (including summer program) through Therap in a timely manner and in adherence with CARF standards.
  • Completes billing paperwork due to ADRS for services provided.
  • Plans and implements extra services as needed per the counselor and school instructor.
  • Implements summer program services.  Coordinates interviews and new hire processes for the program participants.
  • Job coaches participants during the summer program and implements an instructional period each day.
  • Potentially may need to be available to work flexible hours when job coaching.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Prefer experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license, own car, and car insurance.
  • Must be skilled in communicating with high school staff and students with disabilities.
  • Ability to plan and implement employment readiness skills.
  • Physical and emotional ability to perform required work in a self-contained and essentials pathways classes.

Service Coordinator in Early Intervention

Monday – Friday; 40 hours per week; Benefits Eligible

The Service Coordinator is responsible for service coordination activities for each child on his/her case load.  The Service Coordinator works closely with other team members in designing each child’s program and in monitoring progress.  In addition, the Service Coordinator participates fully on the interdisciplinary team, assisting in decisions regarding individual children and program direction.

Education &/or Experience

  • BS Degree or higher in health/human service or social work field required.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and be able to use personal vehicle, if company vehicle is unavailable.
  • A minimum of three to five years of experience working with young children, preferably children with disabilities
  • This position is subject to a criminal background check in accordance with the State of Alabama DHR guidelines

Work Instructor- Adult Day Program

Monday-Friday; 8:00-3:00; Benefits Eligible

Provides training and opportunities for participants to participate in community and community-based work instruction.

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel and lift 100 pounds with a co-worker or 50 pounds independently.

Housekeeper

The Housekeeper is responsible for performing routine tasks to assist in maintaining clean buildings.  Specifically; disposal of garbage; cleaning and disinfecting of bathrooms, floors, furniture, etc. and other duties as assigned.

Substitute Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Adult Day Program

Schedule will be as needed and is flexible Monday-Friday; hours are during day shift. 

The LPN position is a responsible for providing medical care to adult program participants and staff under the direction of a RN or physician.

  • Provides nursing care for participants and staff. Gives medications and performs treatment such as peg tube feeding breathing treatments to program participants.  Measures vital signs of participants.  Administers injections for insulin per physician sliding scale, placement of catheter, dress wound and other medical needs.
  • Assist personal care assistances to ensure each participate is receiving timely, quality care.
  • Follows-up on testing and procedures ordered by healthcare providers.

 Education/Experience

  • Current Alabama State Board of Nursing LPN License
  • Experience with adults who have disabilities preferred
  • Knowledge of regulations and documentation required for providing medical care for adults with disabilities

Substitute Nurse for Adult Day, Hand in Hand and United Ability Clinic

Schedule will be as needed and is flexible Monday-Friday; hours are during day shift.  

Role will provide nursing services to adults and children being served through United Ability’s Adult Day Program, Hand in Hand and United Ability Clinic this will include administering medication and providing tube feeding.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in an LPN or RN role; however, new graduates will be considered.
  • State of Alabama registered and licensed RN or LPN.
  • Experience working with adults and children with disabilities preferred.

Maintenance Technician

Monday-Friday; 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM; Benefits Eligible

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for assisting the Facility Manager with the overall upkeep and maintenance of the United Ability campus. The applicant will be required to exhibit electrical and mechanical skills to troubleshoot and repair ac units, machinery and other campus systems. He/she will be required to communicate his /her jobs status and report conversations with vendors and staff members regarding work related issues to the supervisor. In addition, this person will be expected to support United Ability programs and activities. Also, some overtime work will be requested.

 Qualifications for Position

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2-3 years of experience working in maintenance role
  • Must be a self-starter and have the ability to complete routine maintenance tasks without direct supervision.
  • Must have a valid Alabama driver’s license, automobile insurance as well as reliable transportation.
  • Working knowledge of power tools
  • Must have the physical ability for heavy lifting, (max. 75 lbs.).
  • Knowledge of building code requirements and safety standards.
  • Must have a broad knowledge of AC repair.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed
  • Must be able to pass criminal background screening as required by Department of Human Resources (DHR) guidelines
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform preventive maintenance
  2. Perform Inspections, help maintain work order system and purchase logs
  3. Paint, patch and repair walls
  4. Install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain campus equipment
  5. Make daily rounds and report issues to Facility manager
  6. Order replacement parts using PO system
  7. Help maintain the housekeeping division of facility as needed.
  8. Perform other duties not listed as directed by Facility Manager
