Transition Specialist- Employment Services

Full-time; 8:00-4:30; Benefit Eligible

Coordinates all Pre-Employment Transition Services (ETS) classes, plans, and develops curriculum for the Pre-ETS classes and summer programs, and implements curriculums in classroom settings and summer programs. The Transition Specialist also serves as a job coach during the summer program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements curriculum for Pre-ETS classes.  Selects, develops, modifies and/or adapts materials and resources which support learning.
  • Instructs students in the classroom, on skills necessary for competitive employment based on the specific class authorized.
  • Communicates with school staff to build rapport and to maintain positive relationships.
  • Organizes teaching and student materials for efficient distribution and collection.
  • Documents all services provided (including summer program) through Therap in a timely manner and in adherence with CARF standards.
  • Completes billing paperwork due to ADRS for services provided.
  • Plans and implements extra services as needed per the counselor and school instructor.
  • Implements summer program services.  Coordinates interviews and new hire processes for the program participants.
  • Job coaches participants during the summer program and implements an instructional period each day.
  • Potentially may need to be available to work flexible hours when job coaching.

Qualifications for Position: 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Prefer experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license, own car, and car insurance.
  • Must be skilled in communicating with high school staff and students with disabilities.
  • Ability to plan and implement employment readiness skills.
  • Physical and emotional ability to perform required work in a self-contained and essentials pathways classes.

Parent Educator – First Teacher Home Visiting Program

Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, Benefits Eligible

The Parent Educator provides training for parents/caregivers, who are prenatal or older until the child begins Kindergarten.  The Parent Educator utilizes for training the Parents as Teachers model including the Essential Requirements necessary for model fidelity.  All training takes place in the family’s home or child’s natural environment.

Education &/or Experience

  • Bachelor of a four-year degree in early childhood or a related field is preferred.  It is also acceptable for a parent educator to have a two-year degree or 60 college hours in early childhood or a related field and/or supervised experience working with young children and/or parents.
  • Valid State of AL driver’s license required.
  • Highly organized, accountable, and self-motivated.
  • Able to establish rapport with families and community resources.
  • Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office suite required.
  • Experience working with children and families preferred.

Project Search Skills Training Instructor- Employment Services

Monday – Friday; 9:00-2:00; 22.5 hours per week

Two positions are available–  one will be working on-site at St. Vincent’s Hospital.  The other role will be working on-site at UAB.

As a part of Project Search, facilitates the training and integration of a student with disabilities in a worksite rotation and/or competitive work environment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides individualized support and positive reinforcement for student at the host business worksite rotation or competitive job which includes: job coaching, building natural supports, identifying job accommodations, assistive technology, etc.
  • Communicates effectively with Project SEARCH Instructor, other job coaches, employers, co-workers, family members, and school and agency personnel as it relates to the student being trained and to the success of the student once on the job. 
  • Perform specific job analysis, task analysis, and job matching activities.
  • Trains students in the areas of grooming, hygiene, communication, interviewing, and behavior as they relate to successful employment.
  • Provides travel training to job site if necessary.
  • Attends training provided by school district personnel to become knowledgeable of strategies and current “best practices” in the field of supported employment.
  • Submits and completes appropriate job coaching paperwork.
  • Recognizes and acts on the legal responsibilities concerning the safety and welfare of the consumers. 

Education &/or Experience:

  • High School degree or GED required. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills a must.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and overall positive attitude. 
  • Utilizes sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledgeable of HIPAA laws.
  • Previous experience in supporting youth and adults with disabilities preferred. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.

Assistant Director of Adult Day Program

Monday-Friday; 8:00-4:30; Benefits Eligible

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees all Adult Day program activities.  Assists in implementing the strategic plan for the program as well as assists with developing the quarterly and annual reports.
  • Ensures appropriate supervision and personal care of participants on a daily basis.
  • Makes needed decisions in the absence of the Director. 
  • Manages direct support staff, and provides staff training. 
  • Ensures appropriate documentation of all disciplinary actions of staff and participants.
  • Interviews and provides access and entry of participants and staff into the Adult Day program.
  • Maintains compliance, accreditation, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Addresses behavioral and other participant issues.
  • Develops, coordinates and evaluates program services and training plans for individuals served.
  • Designs and over- sees the implementation of ISP goals for participants, communicates with all interdisciplinary team members regarding ISPs, monitors the quality of all aspects of the program, assures service records are complete, and serves as QIDP in the absence of a QIDP.
  • Ensures proper implementation and use of Therap program.
  • Provides input into the budget and approves expenses. 

Education &/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience working with adults with disabilities required.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or management role required.
  • Knowledge of all required documentation and laws for serving adults with disabilities required.
  • Knowledge of compliance, regulations, and billing methodologies required.   Department of Mental Health training in QIDP, Personal Outcome Measures, Teaching Learning, and PCP meetings preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 200 lbs with assistance of co-worker.

Maintenance Technician

Monday-Friday; 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM; Benefits Eligible               

This position is responsible for assisting the Facility Manager with the overall upkeep and maintenance of the United Ability campus. The applicant will be required to exhibit electrical and mechanical skills to troubleshoot and repair ac units, machinery and other campus systems. He/she will be required to communicate his /her jobs status and report conversations with vendors and staff members regarding work related issues to the supervisor. In addition, this person will be expected to support United Ability programs and activities. Also, some overtime work will be requested.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Perform periodic preventive maintenance duties.

·         Perform repairs on equipment and trouble shoot electrical wiring (up to 277 volts).

·         Paint, patch and repair walls.

·         Install, troubleshoot and maintain campus equipment.

·         Make daily rounds and report issues to Facility manager.

·         Order replacement parts using PO system.

·         Help maintain the housekeeping division of facility as needed using approved chemicals and techniques.

·         Perform other duties not listed, but required or directed by Facility Manager.

Qualifications for Position:

·         High School Diploma or GED required.

·         2-3 years of experience working in maintenance role.

·         Must be a self-starter and have the ability to complete routine maintenance tasks without direct supervision.

·         Must have a valid Alabama driver’s license, automobile insurance as well as reliable transportation.

·         Working knowledge of power tools.

·         Must have the physical ability for heavy lifting, (max. 100 lbs.).

·         Knowledge of building code requirements and safety standards.

·         Must have a broad knowledge of general electrical maintenance and AC repair.

·         Good interpersonal skills.

·         Willingness to work overtime as needed.

·         Must be able to pass criminal background screening and drug screening.
