TEACHING ASSISTANT – Toddler- HAND IN HAND EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM 

Monday-Friday; 9:00-6:00; Benefits Eligible                                 

Teaching Assistants are responsible for assisting in the overall classroom learning plan development and implementation, overall classroom management, and in the absence of the teacher, the supervision of classroom personnel and parental communication.

Education &/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate preferred
  • 19 years of age or older
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience working with young children in a child care setting, preferably children with disabilities
  • Must be able to pass DHR background screening

Maintenance Technician

Monday-Friday; 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM; Benefits Eligible

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for assisting the Facility Manager with the overall upkeep and maintenance of the United Ability campus. The applicant will be required to exhibit electrical and mechanical skills to troubleshoot and repair ac units, machinery and other campus systems. He/she will be required to communicate his /her jobs status and report conversations with vendors and staff members regarding work related issues to the supervisor. In addition, this person will be expected to support United Ability programs and activities. Also, some overtime work will be requested.

 Qualifications for Position

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2-3 years of experience working in maintenance role
  • Must be a self-starter and have the ability to complete routine maintenance tasks without direct supervision.
  • Must have a valid Alabama driver’s license, automobile insurance as well as reliable transportation.
  • Working knowledge of power tools
  • Must have the physical ability for heavy lifting, (max. 75 lbs.).
  • Knowledge of building code requirements and safety standards.
  • Must have a broad knowledge of AC repair.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed
  • Must be able to pass criminal background screening as required by Department of Human Resources (DHR) guidelines
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform preventive maintenance
  2. Perform Inspections, help maintain work order system and purchase logs
  3. Paint, patch and repair walls
  4. Install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain campus equipment
  5. Make daily rounds and report issues to Facility manager
  6. Order replacement parts using PO system
  7. Help maintain the housekeeping division of facility as needed.
  8. Perform other duties not listed as directed by Facility Manager

Transition Specialist- Employment Services

Monday-Friday; 8:00-4:30; Benefit Eligible

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Selects, develops, modifies and/or adapts materials and resources which support learning.
  • Instructs students on skills necessary for competitive employment based on the specific class authorized.
  • Communicates with school staff to build rapport and to maintain positive relationships.
  • Organizes teaching and student materials for efficient distribution and collection.
  • Responsible for managing time effectively and adhering to the school schedule based on the classes authorized.
  • Plans and implements extra services as needed per the counselor and school instructor.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Prefer experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license, own car, and car insurance.
  • Must be skilled in communicating with high school staff and students with disabilities.
  • Ability to plan and implement employment readiness skills.
  • Physical and emotional ability to perform required work in a self-contained and essentials pathways classes.

Skills Training Instructor

Monday – Friday; 10:00-2:30, Part-time

Position will be working on site at University of Alabama at Birmingham

Position will facilitate the training and integration of a student with disabilities in a worksite rotations/competitive job. Responsible for performing duties and activities that are effective to the student’s skills instruction.

Responsibilities

  • To facilitate the training and integration of a student with disabilities in a worksite rotation and/or competitive work environment.
  • Responsible for performing those duties and activities that are conducive for an effective and efficient daily operation.
  • Responsible for personal characteristics necessary to develop attributes consistent with the educational community

Education &/or Experience

  • High School degree or GED required.  Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, own car/insurance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills a must.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.

Life Enrichment Program Assistant – Adult Day Program

Monday-Friday; 8:00-3:00; Benefits Eligible

LEP Assistants provide programmatic direct care services to individuals with developmental disabilities; assists in implementation of habilitative, behavioral and recreational programs; maintain confidentiality of records; assist in meeting personal care and nutritional needs; assist and support in making choices in their life; maintain their rights by complying with applicable laws and regulations and perform other work related tasks as required.

Substitute Receptionist

Schedule: Monday-Friday, but days and hours will vary

Purpose

Greet and direct visitors within the UCP campus. Hours are on an as needed basis dependent on staffing needs due to vacation coverage, unexpected illness, etc.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
