Lead Teacher- Hand in Hand Early Learning Program

Monday – Friday; 7:00-4:00; Benefits Eligible

The Lead Teacher is responsible for the delivery and coordination of program activities for each child in his/her classroom.  The Lead Teacher works closely with other team members in designing each child’s program and in monitoring progress.  In addition, the Lead Teacher participates fully on the multidisciplinary team, assisting in decisions regarding individual children and program direction. 

Education &/or Experience

·      Bachelor’s Degree or higher in related field preferred; minimum Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate.

·       A minimum of three to five years of experience working with young children in a child care setting, preferably with children with disabilities

Ability Clinic Clerk

Tuesday and Thursday; 8:00-4:30

Assists in general administrative duties at the Ability Clinic.

Responsibilities:

  • Scans information into patient charts.
  • Answers phones.
  • Schedules appointments.
  • Checks in patients
  • Prints chart notes.
  • Faxes prescriptions, patient referrals, and other documents.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in an administrative position preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office suite required.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.

Registered Nurse – Adult Day Program

Monday-Friday; Hours will vary between 7:30am-4:00pm and 8:00am-4:30pm;

Benefits Eligible

Advocate (for) and provide medical care to United Ability’s Adult Day participants and staff.  Maintain up-to-date medical records on all participants.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the health and safety of all Adult Day participants to include medication administration, GI tube feedings, breathing treatments, catheterization, administer injections and other skilled nursing duties.
  • Provide health status updates and information to caregivers.
  • Document all services provided to participants in database.
  • Attend staffing and Individual Support Plan meetings and provide pertinent information regarding participant’s medical status.
  • Maintain up-to-date medical records on all participants to include tracking of annual physical exams, reviewing medication regimen as needed and completing current nursing assessments.
  • Teach Adult CPR/Basic First Aid training and MAC training to employees.
  • Administer TB skin tests to new employees upon hire.  Administer flu shots (annually) to employees.
  • Work in conjunction and collaboration with other team members (such as Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech and Language Therapists, QIDP, etc.) to discuss and plan the care for each adult participant at United Ability.
  • Supervise Personal Care Assistants.

Education &/or Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • State of Alabama Licensed Registered Nurse.
  • Experience working with adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.
  • Knowledge of regulations and requirements for providing medical care for adults with disabilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

PERSONAL CARE ASSISTANT – Adult Day Program

Monday-Friday; 8:00-3:30; Benefits Eligible

Provides direct care services to individual with intellectual and physical disabilities through habilitative, behavioral and recreational programs; assists individuals in eating, toileting, and dressing; Assembles supplies needed to assist client; Maintains supply inventory; Keeps supervisor informed regarding clients’ health or behavioral changes; Cleans kitchen area; Assists participants entering and exiting the building; performs other related duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Prefer one (1) year experience, working preferably with individuals with disabilities
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Teaching Assistants are responsible for assisting in the overall classroom learning plan development and implementation, overall classroom management, and in the absence of the teacher, the supervision of classroom personnel and parental communication.

Education &/or Experience:

High School Diploma or GED required; Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate preferred
19 years of age or older
Must be able to pass DHR background screening
A minimum of one (1) year experience working with young children in a child care setting, preferably children with disabilities

Substitute Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Adult Day Program

Schedule will be as needed and is flexible Monday-Friday; hours are during day shift. 

The LPN position is a responsible for providing medical care to adult program participants and staff under the direction of a RN or physician.

  • Provides nursing care for participants and staff. Gives medications and performs treatment such as peg tube feeding breathing treatments to program participants.  Measures vital signs of participants.  Administers injections for insulin per physician sliding scale, placement of catheter, dress wound and other medical needs.
  • Assist personal care assistances to ensure each participate is receiving timely, quality care.
  • Follows-up on testing and procedures ordered by healthcare providers.

 Education/Experience

  • Current Alabama State Board of Nursing LPN License
  • Experience with adults who have disabilities preferred
  • Knowledge of regulations and documentation required for providing medical care for adults with disabilities
