Teaching Assistant- Floater- Hand in Hand Early Learning Center

Monday-Friday; 9:00-6:00; Benefit Eligible

Assists the classroom teacher in implementing lesson plans; attends to child’s basis needs; and provides materials for children to use during learning and playing.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the classroom teacher in managing the classroom including implementing behavior strategies, writing daily notes, and writing therapy reports.
  • Attends to children’s basic needs, including implementing tube feedings, using adaptive equipment for feedings, changing diapers, etc.
  • Assists the teacher in implementing lesson plans and goals including facilitating center time, small groups, and circle time.

Education &/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate preferred
  • 19 years of age or older
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience working with young children in a child care setting, preferably children with disabilities
  • Must be able to pass DHR background screening

Vocational Trainer- Adult Day

Monday-Friday; 7:30-3:30; Benefits Eligible

Responsibilities:

Assist in the set up and clean-up of subcontract activities; Train and assist clients on subcontract activities; Supervise quality of finished product to ensure all orders are filled correctly and in the proper quantity; Advise supervisor when supplies are needed; Maintain documentation of vocational associate’s work; Follow Vocational Associate’s work training schedules; Collect data as required on training and maintenance goals and document on individual progress reports as required; Provide training on basic job skills; Assist in social skills training, data collection and documentation; Assist in recreational activities; Provide feeding assistance as needed; Assist in the development of individual habilitation plans; Set up and facilitate use of communication devices; Model and instruct appropriate workplace behavior.

 Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ years of experience working with disabled adults preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  •  Must be able to stoop, kneel and lift 100 pounds with a co-worker or 50 pounds independently.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and interact with respect to participants, co-workers and supervisors in a respectful, responsive and open manner.
  •  Knowledge of United Ability, DMH, local, state, and federal regulations which include advocating and promoting dignity and respect, protecting the rights of each individual and providing consumers opportunities to exercise their rights.

Registered Nurse – Adult Day Program

Monday-Friday; Hours will vary between 7:30am-4:00pm and 8:00am-4:30pm;

Benefits Eligible

Advocate (for) and provide medical care to United Ability’s Adult Day participants and staff.  Maintain up-to-date medical records on all participants.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the health and safety of all Adult Day participants to include medication administration, GI tube feedings, breathing treatments, catheterization, administer injections and other skilled nursing duties.
  • Provide health status updates and information to caregivers.
  • Document all services provided to participants in database.
  • Attend staffing and Individual Support Plan meetings and provide pertinent information regarding participant’s medical status.
  • Maintain up-to-date medical records on all participants to include tracking of annual physical exams, reviewing medication regimen as needed and completing current nursing assessments.
  • Teach Adult CPR/Basic First Aid training and MAC training to employees.
  • Administer TB skin tests to new employees upon hire.  Administer flu shots (annually) to employees.
  • Work in conjunction and collaboration with other team members (such as Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech and Language Therapists, QIDP, etc.) to discuss and plan the care for each adult participant at United Ability.
  • Supervise Personal Care Assistants.

Education &/or Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • State of Alabama Licensed Registered Nurse.
  • Experience working with adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.
  • Knowledge of regulations and requirements for providing medical care for adults with disabilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

PERSONAL CARE ASSISTANT – Adult Day Program

Monday-Friday; 8:00-3:30; Benefits Eligible

Provides direct care services to individual with intellectual and physical disabilities through habilitative, behavioral and recreational programs; assists individuals in eating, toileting, and dressing; Assembles supplies needed to assist client; Maintains supply inventory; Keeps supervisor informed regarding clients’ health or behavioral changes; Cleans kitchen area; Assists participants entering and exiting the building; performs other related duties as assigned.

Education &/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Prefer one (1) year experience, working preferably with individuals with disabilities
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
