United Ability Names Rebecca Harris as New Lead Speech-Language Pathologist for Outpatient Clinic

United Ability’s Outpatient Clinic congratulates Rebecca Harris on her new role as Lead Speech-Language Pathologist.

Educational Foundation and Early Connection to United Ability

Rebecca brings more than a decade of experience serving children and families with a wide range of communication needs, along with a deep commitment to collaborative, family-centered care.

Rebecca earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders from Auburn University and her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Montevallo. Her connection to United Ability began during graduate school, where she completed a student internship and was mentored by skilled speech-language pathologists whose guidance helped shape her clinical approach and sparked her passion for assistive technology and access to augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

Expanding Clinical Expertise and Leadership

Following graduate school, Rebecca began her professional career at United Ability working in Early Intervention. This work strengthened her skills in family-centered care and shaping her understanding of the importance of partnering closely with caregivers to support meaningful progress across daily routines.

In 2017, Rebecca moved out of state, where she continued to carry forward the mission of United Ability by applying the values and clinical foundations she developed there through her work supporting AAC and complex communication needs. During this time, she expanded her clinical knowledge and experience in dysphagia and pediatric feeding disorders while earning certification as a lactation counselor (CLC) to better support infant feeding. She returned to Birmingham and United Ability in 2023, where she has worked in the Early Learning Program, Autism Evaluation Clinic, and Outpatient Clinic.

In addition to her clinical background, Rebecca brings experience in leadership and mentorship, supporting fellow clinicians and contributing to strong, collaborative clinical teams. As Lead Speech-Language Pathologist, she is passionate about fostering clinical excellence and promoting best practices.

Looking Ahead

Outside of work, Rebecca enjoys spending time with her husband, David, and their three young children.

United Ability is excited to welcome Rebecca into this leadership role!
